PROJECT DETAILS

Project Overview

Since 2016, Academy of Hope has been dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing access to quality education for children in and around Rajasthan, India.

Why is this necessary?

Over 115 million children in India live in extreme poverty, according to a 2016 report by the World Bank Group and UNICEF. Although public education is a legal right for every child, the system falls short, particularly for impoverished families. The hidden costs of schooling—such as books, transportation, uniforms, and additional tuition—make education inaccessible for many.

In Rajasthan's rural areas, the situation worsens. While the official student-to-teacher ratio is 35:1, teacher absenteeism is rampant, with 25% of teachers regularly not showing up. This rate is even higher in rural regions, leaving many children without proper supervision, care, or a solid educational foundation. Without support, many of these children are unlikely to advance to high school or pursue further studies.

Our Journey

In August 2016, our founder, Caleb Jude Packham, hosted a fundraising yoga event in London, aiming to sponsor one child’s education for a year. The event exceeded expectations, raising enough to send ten children to school. Since then, Academy of Hope has consistently supported at least ten children each year.

We partner with Sanskar International Academy, a co-educational, English-medium school in Rajasthan, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The school offers education from pre-secondary through secondary levels, with 18 well-equipped classrooms and essential facilities.
